Edgar D. Stoesz 1929 – 2025
Edgar D. Stoesz, born in Mt. Lake, MN, on August 10, 1929, passed away on March 12, 2025, at the age of 95. His life was marked by dedicated service and a strong faith. Stoesz’s career was deeply intertwined with Mennonite organizations, including significant tenures with the Mennonite Central Committee. He was also an accomplished author, exploring themes of community and mutual aid. His work extended globally, and he held leadership positions in numerous charitable boards including Habitat for Humanity International, Heifer International, Bridge of Hope National, American Leprosy Mission, Albert Schweitzer Haiti and Fuller Center for Housing.
Edgar’s work was instrumental in the formation of Resource Partners. To address challenges faced by a well-developed retirement community and a growing Anabaptist nonprofit institutional network, both of whom encountered insurance rates that were not representative of the quality of their management, The Association of Anabaptist Risk Management (AARM) was organized in 1993 with a small office established in Lancaster in 1994. Edgar served on the founding Board of AARM, which was loosely related to Mennonite Indemnity where Edgar served as the CEO for 39 years. In 2004, with the addition of Friends Service Alliance, the Board of AARM was restructured and the name was changed to Resource Partners.
Edgar leaves behind a legacy of service, and a loving family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family requests that anyone desiring to honor Edgar’s life of service give to one of the following charities: Mennonite Central Committee, P. O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501, or Habitat for Humanity International, 322 West Lamar Street, Americus, Georgia 31709-3543 USA, or simply plant a tree.
